Official Report from Wilmer Espinoza:

Thank you to everyone who is involved in this great help. God will bless you for it.

Damages:

Olancho

We have 3 brothers whose latrines have fallen due to the rain. They have asked me for help.

La Mosquitia

This area was strongly affected due to the rain and the wind. Until yesterday there were many people missing. On the news, it said that 77 houses were completely destroyed, and nearly 50 people were floating on top of the water on pieces of wood. Some of them that were floating were nearly out of strength. It is not known if there are more people in this condition.

The little information that I have received from our brothers in Christ in this area is that 2 of the members of the church have lost their homes and the church building was destroyed due to the strong winds. So far, they have not yet responded back to us because the communication in this area is a little difficult.

I am still waiting for the calculations for the costs of the repairs for these 2 men and the church building. As soon as they let me know the information, I will let you know.

News of San Pedro Sula and Trujillo

We spoke with Alfonso twice yesterday in San Pedro Sula.  Everything was closed and their was massive flooding throughout the city and the surrounding flat rural areas.  He said that many people from small villages had been evacuated by the military so it was difficult to know how the villages themselves fared since no one had returned and no visits had been made at that time.  We also heard from Marel and Maybelline in Trujillo at Little Hands, Big Hearts that they got mostly 30-45 MPH winds and lots of rain.  At the Family Development Center the only initial damage was that many of the new 200 banana trees planted just last month were uprooted or washed away.  All things considered those in Trujillo fared fairly well apparently.

News from Les in Catacamas as of 09/05:

The leading edge of the hurricane has passed us. We are waterlogged but safe. We expect the trailing end to give us some more rain, and perhaps a little wind, later this evening. We still have power.

They intend to be able to send all the children back to school tomorrow and are thankful that the Hurricane did not hit ‘our’ area as hard as we expected. They expect to get a good bit more rain but think that all will be fine.

News from Santa Maria de Real, Olancho:

Here, nothing major happened. There was destruction, but in this area, we didn't have any major damage. I have not yet heard from our brothers in the mountains about their conditions.

News from Mario Alfaro:

My brothers in Christ, thanks to God that all is well for the most part after Hurricane Felix. But in its path through La Mosquitia, it has left a brother in the church of Christ without a home, as it did to many others in that area.

I'm going to talk about Jutiquile now. There are three families there that had their latrines destroyed by the rains. A woman that was digging a hole to make a latrine had the latrine ruined by all the waters, unfortunately, in the area near the church building where there was a hole that was going to be made into a latrine, the hole became filled with water. A woman in the church needs to put a reinforcement in the wall where the water has already weakened a part of the house. Anyway, there are many needs, but we are doing what we can, and thank you for everything y'all are doing in your congregations to help us. I want to tell you all that one person can not do these things. The only way to do it is as a team. This week in the Mision del Caribe building, there was a meeting between Wilmer Espinoza, Marlon Molina, and Mario Alfaro to motivate us and next Monday we hope to have a meeting with Santos Espinoza, David, and others in order to prepare ourselves in situations of risk for the future.

Well, all in all the funds will depend on where we decide to offer our help. In the meetings, we have also discussed that the churches should get involved in the help for themselves too. We want to get our brothers in different regions involved in the help.

Agenda

1. assemble a central operational team here in Catacamas and also in the area of the mountains.

2. Strategize for help in times of difficulty

3. Collect funds, money, clothes, medicine and food

4. Instill in the churches a spirit of benevolence

5. Inform the churches on how they can help

6. Places of shelter
